AN EXTREME FAMILY IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA GETS AN "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION"

The Harris Sextuplets and Their Family are the Latest Recipients of ABC-TV’s Hit Home Makeover Show.

The "extreme" nine-member Harris family from Birmingham, Alabama received the remarkable news on Monday, January 31, that their house will get an “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and that in just seven days, they will be able to move back into a finished and completely renovated house.

When Chris and Diamond Harris couldn’t get pregnant, they turned to a specialist for help. The couple was overjoyed when they learned that Diamond was pregnant with multiples. At first, the sonogram showed that there were two babies and then a second ultrasound showed five but the Harris’s didn’t learn until delivery (at 26 1/2 weeks), that there was yet another baby -- bringing the total to a surprise six – 4 boys and 2 girls. Today, the Harris Sextuplets, who are now two years old, are the first-ever surviving set of African American sextuplets in the world.

When Diamond was pregnant, she was put on bed-rest and had to leave her nursing job. Chris’s salary as a third grade teacher wasn’t sufficient and soon they found their home in foreclosure. Fortunately, their wonderful neighbors rallied around them and raised enough money to stop the bank proceedings. The 2000 sq. ft., 3-bedroom house was in need of repair and matters were made worse when Hurricane Ivan blew over a tree that landed on the house. The Harris family’s house is calling for many things, including a much-needed playroom for six very busy toddlers. In addition to the sextuplets, Chris and Diamond have another son, nine-year-old DeWayne.

While the design team, contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are solving the space issue to accommodate six adorable and energetic toddlers, the family will be on vacation at Disney World.

The episode, "Harris Family," will air SUNDAY, MARCH 6 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Michael Moloney, Constance Ramos and Eduardo Xol. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Tom Forman and co-executive produced by Denise Cramsey. A parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.
