A Little Background
On October 29th 2003, our business burned down to the ground. At the time, nothing worse could have happened to our small family-owned and –operated business. The very next day we went back on the job, working out of three locations just to produce product, and never letting ourselves get discouraged. Looking back at where we were and where we are now, we can see how much of a blessing-in-disguise this horrific event had become.
The First Call
It was a normal business day and we were hard at work. Ginger, our office manager and dedicated fan of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, received a call from one of the designers on the show, Ashley Vaughn. Ashley started the conversation with,” How have you guys been doing since the fire?” Our website still had a brief description of the fire, as well as, a description of our rebuilding efforts. Ginger filled her in on our progress since the fire and after about five minutes Ashley asked if we would like to provide shutters for a deserving family in Birmingham, Alabama. Ginger immediately said, "Yes! We would love to!"
Once Ginger finished the call, a loud scream sounded throughout the office. Everyone jumped up out of there chairs and ran into her office wondering if she had been hurt. Luckily, it was just Ginger being very excited about what had just happened. The rest of the day everyone called all their friends and family members to let them know we were picked for the show. Excitement filled the office.
As the next couple weeks passed, we received more and more information about our involvement in this huge project.
